KICKOFF FOR GRANDSTAND AND FLOOD PROTECTION
The works for two projects along the Drau River are underway, marking significant progress in enhancing the infrastructure and facilities at Technologiepark Villach.
Firstly, the construction of a "Flusstribüne" (River Grandstand) is in progress, serving as a meeting area directly alongside the water. This project aims to create a vibrant space for interaction and relaxation, similar to the popular Drauterrassen near the Congress Center Villach. The Flusstribüne will feature seating steps along the riverbank, inviting employees, students, apprentices, as well as pedestrians and cyclists to enjoy the picturesque surroundings.
The design of the Flusstribüne incorporates locally sourced materials such as larch wood and emphasizes greenery with a thoughtful planting scheme comprising flowers, native flowering perennials, trees, and grasses.
Parallel to the construction of the grandstand, the cycle path will also be laid in the area of the high-tech campus up to the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences. As part of this relocation, the site will also be remodeled and will provide an even better “insight” into the tpv and the local companies. Connections for cyclists and pedestrians to the Villach Technology Park are also being considered.
FIRST CONSTRUCTION PHASE FOR FLOOD PROTECTION BEGINS
In addition to the Flusstribüne, the investment of 7.6 million euros into flood protection measures demonstrates a commitment to safeguarding the area against natural disasters. This initiative, undertaken in collaboration with the City of Villach, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Regions and Water Management, the State of Carinthia, and VERBUND Hydro Power GmbH, encompasses the construction of dams and concrete walls along the Drau and Ossiacher Seebach. Notably, an 800-meter-long dam will be erected in the vicinity of Technologiepark Villach.
For these measures to protect against 100-year floods, it is essential to fell trees in some areas. Since the birds' breeding season begins in just a few weeks, it is necessary to carry out the felling work as quickly as possible. In order to compensate for these interventions in nature, extensive water ecological improvements are planned in the form of widening and lowering of the banks.
The commencement of these projects signifies a significant step forward in the evolution of Technologiepark Villach, promising improved amenities, safety, and sustainability for its community members and visitors alike.
