CiSMAT (Carinthia Institute for Smart Materials) is a newly established center that is dedicated to the research and development of innovative smart material solutions for future industrial and societal applications. It is supported by the Carinthian Economic Promotion Fund (KWF) and is part of the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences (CUAS).
CiSMAT researchers study the following fields:
- Integrated piezoelectric sensors
- Magnetorheological fluids
- Phase change materials
- Shape-memory alloys & polymers
- Acoustic metamaterials
- Smart Textiles
CiSMAT works closely with a network of local and international companies, which it also supports in their work to become more environmentally-friendly, more secure, and more efficient.
Beyond the specific research areas, CiSMAT strives to use its varied and complementary skills to help students, colleagues, partners, and start-up entrepreneurs test the technical feasibility of new concepts and possible innovative solutions to challenging problems. In particular, this work is carried out within the framework of “Innochecks” projects and master’s degree theses. Technical feasibility studies can also be strongly supported by the KWF (see the program “Start F&E”).
In addition, CiSMAT collaborates with the WING Department (Industrial Engineering and Management) at CUAS.
